Halt is asking for Screen Time permission — is that normal?

Yes, and it is required. Halt's blocking, limits and friction prompts are built on Apple's Screen Time (Family Controls) framework. Without that permission iOS will not let any app apply limits. Granting it does not give Halt a readable log of your activity — Apple's design keeps that on the device.

My limits are not being applied

  1. Check Settings → Screen Time is on for this device.
  2. Check Halt still has Screen Time access: Settings → Screen Time → App & Website Activity.
  3. If the device is managed by a Family Sharing organiser or an employer MDM profile, those rules take priority and can block third-party limits entirely.
  4. Restart the phone. Screen Time's enforcement daemon occasionally needs it after an iOS update.

The launcher is not my home screen

iOS does not let a third-party app replace the system home screen outright. Halt gives you a text-only launcher you open in place of it — put it in the dock, add it to the Action button or a Back Tap shortcut, and move your icon pages out of the way so the launcher is what you reach for. The setup screens in the app walk through this.

Using it

I need a blocked app right now

You can always get through. The friction prompt is a pause, not a lock: complete it and the app opens. Deep Freeze can be ended from within Halt. Calls, messages and navigation are never blocked, in any mode.

Can I use Halt with Family Sharing to limit someone else's device?

Halt is designed for your own device. For managing a child's phone, Apple's own Family Sharing screen time controls are the right tool, because they are enforced from the organiser's account rather than from an app on the child's phone.

Does Halt drain the battery?

It should be negligible. The enforcement is done by iOS itself through the Screen Time framework, not by an app polling in the background. If you are seeing meaningful battery use attributed to Halt, tell us — that is a bug, and we want the details.

Data

How do I delete my data?

Delete the app. Your limits, launcher list and schedules live on the device, so removing Halt removes them. There is no account, so there is nothing to close.
